What a GREAT Day!

SWUMC News
Thank you for all of your optimistic notes, yesterday. I was quite messed up from the start, I even woke up thinking yesterday was Friday, not Thursday...some may have wondered why it was titled Friday?

The day got better and better. The pain worked itself out after a couple hours of moving around and doing some cleaning. Belinda came---it was so wonderful to see her. She is quite the runner. She has traveled to Korea, Alaska, and Europe on New Zealand's cross country and mountain running teams. (She REALLY takes running seriously). So when she told me she packed her running clothes I was Ecstatic! (No, I wasn't going to run with her)BUT, I could be her water girl on my bicycle!! So she ran at her 4K/mile pace which translates into 6:30 pace --for nearly 12 miles. She caught up to and passed the high school cross country team!! It was fun. I was quite satisfied being a water girl and pace bunny. I put my GPS on my bike and kept her on her pace (as I easily coasted on my bike-hehe)! Then my half dressed dad met us out by their house on his moped. We looked like we were guarding the president of the U.S.--following Bee on her heels. So we probably won't see each other again for several years, and she proposes that I head to New Zealand at that time, maybe I will be able to keep up with her there??? (I did get to send home a Becca's Love Run T shirt with her!).

I feel much better this morning, just a little sore. I'm going to work a couple of hours today and see how that goes and spend the rest of the day with the kids. I hope you all have a great FRIDAY! Love, Becca

Friday

SWUMC News

I feel like a I have been ran over by a truck this morning. I would have never imagined so much pain. I guess that IS what pain medication is for.

I'm really excited, one of my girlfriends (and roommate) from Anderson University is coming up for a visit this morning. We haven't seen each other in 8 years! We email, but she lives in New Zealand. The first time she came home with me in college she actually embarassed my dad. He asked me if she was a hot blond with "other features". I said of course (but really she was a runner and we all know how runners are built!) So she stuffed two pairs of socks in her shirt. You should have seen my dad's face when he met her!!! He still calls her "two socks" instead of Belinda.

Chicago Marathon

SWUMC News
I'm pretty disappointed. I emailed the Chicago Marathon "people" to see if I could run just part of the race. They sent me a reply stating that it would be too dangerous and that I would have to have contact information on file--which I would since I am a registered runner. I emailed them back asking them to reconsider and reminded them that I did pay the hefty race fee and would be wearing a bib number. In the end, I will just do what I have to, I guess...

The port is in, not a very good experience, I have to say. I think maybe the drugs they keep using on me are not working so well anymore. I remember EVERYTHING! I felt EVERYTHING! The Doc kept asking the nurse to give me more fentanyl...I didn't realize how painful this procedure was going to be. YIKES!

It was nice to spend time with my dad, even though he tried to embarass me....it doesn't work anymore! He took me today and then we got to eat with mom...thought I wasn't going to make it through dinner, had to take nausea medication.

Thank you again for all of your prayers and cards, pies, and goodies.

Port placed tomorrow

SWUMC News: September 2006
I went to work today, just worked on the phones--what a crazy day.
I heard from the surgeon's office, I guess a Dr. Kava will be placing the port tomorrow at Parkview. I think they give me something to "relax" me, which I know means that I'll be sleeping for the rest of that day.
Thank you for all of your prayers and support. Oh, and the 5K run/walk is Sunday, NOT Saturday, in case anyone saw that typo in the paper today.
Thank you,
Becca

Countdown: 1 week

SWUMC News

One week until chemo starts. Today I am feeling more positive--yesterday was a rough day--all day long.

It's difficult to look at my kids and not wonder if I will get to be there for their next birthdays or see them start kindergarten. I'm going to try my best so that I can continue to share milestones such as these and try to stop dwelling on things like that.

Today was a milestone. I ran 4 miles, nonstop (8:32 pace)! I really don't have any pain, except for that gas pain from the laparascopy. I can still feel some of that roaming around my abdomen.

Just planning on playing with the kids today and going to Grandma and Grandpa Hurds'. Lauren wants to put up fall decorations, so we may have to do that too.
Love,
Becca
