Muddy, but lots of fun!

SWUMC News
Today we had a blast running a loop of the HUFF (Huntington Ultra Frigid Fifty kilometers). We slipped and slid all over the place. A couple of us fell a few times, but managed to get up and keep going. All 4 of us crossed the finish line hand in hand at the same time!! I'll put a before and after photo on this site--we actually aren't THAT muddy, but our shoes were tough to run in with all the caked on mud. There were lots of muddy puddles to run through.

I haven't had this much fun running with a group EVER. I admit, I had to stop and walk a couple times and you girls were so nice to walk with me. It really wasn't nice of me to laugh so hard when Kelly and Stephanie wiped out, but I nearly hyperventilated...Kelly rolled on over like a volley ball pro! And just when a photographer yelled way to go...Steph hit the ground. Thankfully we all finished in one piece. A little past mile 7, there was even a table with pepsi, m & ms, chips, etc...so we took advantage of that too. Who'd imagine that out in the boonies there would be such a great oasis of food!
Thank you for such a great way to end this year! Love, Becca

Thursday

SWUMC News
Merry Christmas! Kind of late, but really, this entire week leading up to New Years is like Christmas week. People are off work, kids are out of school--reminders everywhere that Christmas is here! Yahoo for Jesus' birth!

I see Christmas quite differently as an adult--not only do I have a lot more responsibilities like the shopping, food prep, and getting kids around, but I also have a new appreciation for Christ. It may be kinds of selfish since I have cancer--my mortality is a little more obvious to me than it used to be. But it is the wake up call that I needed.

There's still a group of us going to run a loop of the HUFF. I can't imagine running the entire 50 K (about 32-34 miles--depending on the course). I imagine it's going to be a muddy mess. A couple of us from church are going...Kelly M., Staci B, and myself, and also Stephanie, maybe Paula and Mary Beth too? I'd love to take my camera along to capture the mudslinging event, but I think that could be dangerous. We'll see.
There are several locals running the entire 50K! Go Kim, Dallas, Tom and Dr. Jamie!
Grandma Hurd made all her Great Grand daughter's robes...the photo is some of her Great Granddaughters.
